Flavor of Italy

Enjoy a true Roman Holiday as you revel in the abundance of Rome's art treasures and monuments — and dine on the finest of the Italian capital's gastronomical specialties. This week you will take part in a very unique cooking adventure: each day you will take a class in a different fine restaurant of Rome and then sit down to a gourmet meal. This is a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes in some of Rome's top restaurants!

Day One
Arrival at the quaint Hotel Fontana, situated in the heart of Rome's historic district in the Piazza di Trevi, overlooking the famous Trevi Fountain. Settle into your room and explore the area, and then in the evening come along for a welcome cocktail on the hotel's panoramic terrace to hear about your upcoming gastronomical adventure.

Day Two
This morning you will start off with a walking tour:

Streets of the Papacy: The Neighborhood of Campo dei Fiori. Campo dei Fiori is one of Rome's most famous and vibrant vegetable and flower market and is not to be missed! Lunch at the Ristorante Pier Luigi, followed by your first cooking class with Pier Luigi's outstanding chef, Roberto.

Day Three
We will begin the day with a morning cooking class in Rome's most fashionable residential area: Parioli.

Chef Antonello of Casa Mia will teach you his specialties, including ravioli stuffed with porcini mushrooms and pine nuts; and linguine allo scoglio, a dish prepared with shrimp, mussels, clams and squid sautéed in olive oil with a touch of fresh tomatoes, garlic and hot pepper. Following lunch we will take a walking tour of the glorious Piazza Navona and its environs: The Artisans and the Bourgeoisie. We'll stop by the Sant'Eustacchio Bar for the creamiest cappuccino in town, or if you prefer, a superb granita di caffè made with chips of iced coffee.

Day Four
In the morning you learn how olive oil and vinegars, including the rich balsamic vinegar from Modena, are used to create sumptuous Italian dishes. In the afternoon you are free to discover more of the Eternal City on your own.

Day Five
After a stroll in the center among its antique buildings and the splendid Roman renaissance churches, you will arrive at the Taverna del Campo in Via del Pellegrino. The Taverna del Campo offers a peaceful alternative where you will learn to prepare excellent first courses, fish or meat second courses while sampling tasty antipasti which accompany a fine glass of wine. After your class browse around this colorful neighborhood among young artists, professional people, tourists enjoying themselves, musicians...

Day Six
Today we’ll visit the Roman countryside and enjoy a class based on casareccio (home-style) dishes including a delectable radicchio lasagne. We’ll also taste some local country cheeses.

Day Seven
We're off to a special restaurant...George's Restaurant, on the chic Via Veneto for your last class of the week. Here you'll learn how to prepare some of the chef's most famous specialties. Following lunch browse around the Via Veneto and Rome's famous designer shops. We will meet back at the Hotel Fontana Terrace for a farewell cocktail and distribution of course certificates, recipe booklets, and commemorative hand-painted ceramic platters.
